Fueling our Faith in Prayer

A Prayer to our Covenant Keeping God

covkeepingprayer1The truth of God’s Word and the magnitude of His love takes my breath away every time I try to wrap my brain around what our Heavenly Father did for me, for those whom I love, and for you, my faithful friend, because it is only by God’s grace that we have been reconciled to God by the sacrifice of His Son, who’s holy and righteous blood was shed on our behalf.

Goose bumps appear on my arms, and my heart begins to beat a little faster just trying to comprehend that as God of the universe spoke and creation came into being, a plan was already set in motion for how eternal life would be fulfilled. One day, God’s Son would become the once and for all payment for the sins of the world. With gentleness, humility, and compassion for all, Christ came into this world, born of a virgin yet fully God in the flesh. Completely yielded to His Father, Jesus spent His time teaching, healing, and spreading God’s message of love to all who would receive His words. As Christ surrendered to the punishment that was His destiny, a man who knew no sin bore our sins by becoming the perfect sacrifice for all mankind. Beaten, mocked, and nailed to a cross, Christ prayed to the Father to forgive us for our sins before taking His final breath. As the sky turned dark and the ground began to shake, the veil in the temple was torn in two. His lifeless body was brought down from the cross, prepared for burial, and placed in a tomb. Three days later the stone was removed, and His body was no longer there. He had risen and was alive. After spending forty days and nights in fellowship with His followers providing final instructions to wait upon the promise from the Father, Christ was then lifted up into heaven where He sat down at the right hand of the Father- to reign- and to intercede on our behalves.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

I remember the day I sat down to write out this prayer in my journal praising God for what Christ had done for me. My hope in sharing this prayer with you, Friend, is that it will bring as much encouragement, joy, and hope to your heart as it does to mine.

Prayer to our Covenant Keeping God

Father God,

Your love endures forever. Before the foundation of the world, You breathed life and love into existence. Your love is unfailing, never ending, and full of mercy, grace, and redemption. Even as a sinner, You loved me and never left me. You provided the way for eternal life by the blood that was shed by Jesus, Your precious and Holy Son. By His wounds I am healed, by Your grace I am forgiven, and by Christ’s resurrection I have eternal life and victory over sin. Your Word stands for truth. All Your promises will come to be. Your love never fails.

I thank you, Father, that I have a High Priest who knows and understands all my human weaknesses and struggles. My Savior not only put on flesh, but He endured and experienced each and every pain. His blood washes me clean and provides the way to You, Father. How grateful I am, God, that You are my mighty fortress and shield. Not only are You sovereign, but You are my God, the One who sees, the One who hears, the One who heals, and the One who never lets go of my hands. Thank you, Father, that You are an unconditional loving God who seeks out His lost sheep and calls each and every one of them home. Only You, God, can make the blind see and bring the dead back to life.

Today I choose love because You loved me first.

Today I choose to repent from my sinful ways and forgive others because even while I was sinning, You forgave me.

Today I choose to trust because Your Word is truth—it is all-sufficient, the lamp for our feet and light for our path.

Today I thank You for the Holy Spirit, He who provides the power and guidance to walk in righteousness. Even if I can’t see You, I choose to believe, and walk with You because Your love never fails.

Today I choose Jesus because He is the way, the truth, and the life.

Father God, may my heart be clean and filled with joy as I confidently claim that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Master over all. May my heart be filled and sing praises to the One who has sat down at the right hand of the Father on my behalf. In remembrance for what Christ has done, let me never forget who I am in Christ and of the never-ending love that comes from our covenant-keeping God.

In Jesus Name,

Amen

From my nest to yours,

Chris
