The JOY of Christmastime

joyofchristmastimeOH HOW He loves us, and yet we can easily become dull of hearing.  How easy it is to be distracted and deceived by the things of this world, however, out of His love, He knew us by name before we were born. We were called, destined even before He wove us together in our mother’s womb and were birthed.

He knows you from the inside out because He created you. No one knows you more intimately because He is God, and you are His creation.

Listen to me all you in distant lands! Pay attention, you who are far away! The LORD called me before my birth; from within the womb he called me by name. Isaiah 49: 1

OH HOW truth can be painful and convicting, yet it has the ability to pierce and penetrate by His power. He protects and shields us, for we never leave His mighty and all-sufficient hands.  He strengthens and uses us to be a light to others.  How it brings Him glory when we are living, abiding, and sharing His love to others.

He made my words of judgment as sharp as a sword. He has hidden me in the shadows of his hand.  I am like a sharp arrow in his quiver. He said to me “You are my servant, Israel, and you will bring me glory.” Isaiah 49:2-3

OH HOW we crave to understand God’s ways. We desire to know our purpose and to live fulfilled lives.  We question and doubt if we can really make a difference. How we struggle with surrendering and placing our trust in the One who has already gone before us. Yet He stands with open arms to reward those who seek Him with a whole heart.

I replied, “But my work seems so useless! I have spent my strength for nothing and for no purpose.  Yet I leave it all in the LORD’s hand; I will trust God for my reward.” Isaiah 49:4

OH HOW the Lord speaks, hears, and sees.  He is in all things and works them all out for His glory. What an honor to be called His beloved child.  He provides the strength. He provides the power. He has given us His Word. Through His Son, there is revival, restoration, and unity. He will do more than we can ever imagine or dream.  He is with us and will never leave us.

Salvation is here.

And now the LORD speaks—the one who formed me in my mother’s womb to be his servant, who commissioned me to bring Israel back to him. The LORD has honored me, and my God has given me strength.  He says, ‘You will do more than restore the people of Israel to me. I will make you a light to the Gentiles, and you will bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.” Isaiah 49:5-6

OH HOW it is only through His love, holiness, and faithfulness that we were chosen. We are holy because He is holy.  We did nothing to deserve it. He was rejected, despised, and suffered bearing the punishment that we deserved. Not even the rulers of this world can overcome His power and His ways. There will come a day when all will see His glory revealed, and every knee will bow.

The LORD, the Redeemer, and Holy One of Israel, says to the one who is despised and rejected by the nations, to the one who is the servant of rulers: “Kings will stand at attention when you pass by.  Princes will also bow low because of the LORD, the faithful one, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.” Isaiah 49: 7

OH HOW God’s timing is perfect. He answers. He is our helper, our protector, and shield.  He is our forever covenant-keeping Father.  It is through His grace, His forgiveness and mercy that He restores and calls His beloved children home.  He is the path to rest. He is our light and the hand that brings us out of darkness and despair.  He is our Shepherd, providing our daily needs and cares.  He knows exactly what we need and even through times of refining, He provides the refreshment. He can move mountains and calm any storm.  He raises up, restores, and revives, bringing beauty out of brokenness, new life from ruins. He reassures us through His Word that His will and His ways will be done.

Is there anything that our Lord cannot do or redeem?

This is what the LORD says:

“At just the right time, I will respond to you. On the day of salvation I will help you.  I will protect you and give you to the people as my covenant with them.  Through you I will reestablish the land of Israel and assign it to its own people again. I will say to the prisoners, ‘Come out in freedom,’ and to those in darkness, ‘Come into the light,’ They will be my sheep, grazing in green pastures and on hills that were previously bare.  They will neither hunger nor thirst.  The searing sun will not reach them anymore.  For the Lord in his mercy will lead them; he will lead them beside cool waters.  And I will make my mountains into level paths for them.  The highways will be raised above the valleys. See, my people will return from far way, from lands to the north and west, and from as far south as Egypt. Isaiah 49:8-12

OH HOW our hearts should dance in anticipation for the One who has made all things possible. Our debt has been paid in full. He is our comforter and His compassions never fail.

Sing for joy, O heavens! Rejoice, O earth! Burst into song, O mountains!  For the LORD has comforted his people and will have compassion on them in their suffering. Isaiah 49: 13

May this Christmas season bring joy, comfort, and peace to your heart and may you embrace and remember all of God’s love for you.

From my nest to yours,

Chris

  1. Just beautiful and so timely. Thank you so much. Nailed it for me today.

Have you heard of Messiah Rocks! Handel’s Messiah with a modern flair? Isaiah 49 prominent and rocks my socks off in a nerdy, yet encouraging way!

  2. Beautiful! I love the flow of this post. I am so thankful for God’s love and the fact that He knew me before I was formed. That verse has a special place in my heart and in my story.
